Tuesday, May 18, 2010

If you are thinking about starting to learn how to play the guitar, you need to know few things beforehand. As a beginner I had no one to direct me or give some tips on what I needed to have in order to see results. After many years of experimenting I have found that these 14 points are crucial for fast learning. They are in no particular order and are all equally important. Be sure not to skip over any of them.

1. A Metronome - The most important tool a musician can have

2. A Good Teacher - You need a good teacher who can point you in the right direction

3. A Lot Of Spare Time Devoted To Practicing - The more you practice the better you get

4. A Good Practice Plan - A good plan brings results faster

5. Taking Breaks Between Each Exercise - Giving your brain a minute to process the information is crucial for fast learning

6. A Good Theory Book - Having a good reference book helps tremendously when you have a problem 7. Tapping Your Foot With The Metronome - This develops your sense of rhythm which is the most important part of musicianship

8. A Decent Amplifier - Having a decent guitar sound motivates a person to practice more often than when having a dreadful one

9. A Decent Guitar - A beginner needs a guitar that is decent quality in order to enjoy practicing 10. A Lot Of Discipline - You have to have a lot of discipline because it will NOT always be fun to practice

11. Enthusiasm About The Instrument - Enthusiasm is what gets us through difficulties we face in our learning path

12. The Right Strings For Your Type Of Hands - We all have different type of hands and it is important to find the right gauge strings that feel easy to play

13. A Good Setup On The Guitar - Having a good setup can turn even a cheap guitar into very enjoyable playing experience

14. The Right Pick For Your Style Of Music - There a many picks of different thicknesses. If you are only playing chords on the guitar, choose a lighter gauge. If you are playing a lot of lead lines, choose a heavier gauge.

Be sure that you have everything on the list. It will make your learning experience a whole lot more enjoyable and fun.
